Rights and use

The repository keeps apart two things that are often confused: the metadata, meaning the description of each document, and the web resources (the digital copies, meaning the files themselves).

Metadata

The descriptions are produced by the Laboratory for the Study of Greek Music and are available for searching, study and citation. Republishing them is allowed with attribution to the source.

Web resources

No web resource is publicly displayed at present. Each document page shows the description without the file: the document stays visible and searchable, the resource does not. The Laboratory is preparing the public display policy, so that material whose rights allow it can be made available with an explicit rights statement per document. Until that work is complete, access is granted upon request.

Once display is enabled, it will happen inside the page, with no download. Any use beyond private study, such as republication, edition or public performance, requires permission from the rights holders.

Duration of protection

Under Greek law, copyright lasts for the life of the author and seventy (70) years after their death, counted from 1 January of the year following the author's death. The related rights of performers last fifty (50) years after the performance, and in any case not less than the performer's lifetime, while the rights of producers and publishers likewise last fifty (50) years from the corresponding triggering event.

Access requests

For material that is not publicly displayed, a request may be submitted to the Laboratory for the Study of Greek Music, describing the document and the purpose of the intended use.

Personal data

If a record contains information concerning a specific person that should not be published, the laboratory reviews it upon contact.
